Urban Nest was packed last night for yet another Phanphest production by Drew Wajnert. For the second time this week, I checked out Joe Miller performing in Asbury Park. I last saw him at the Jersey Shore Premiere Fashion Show at The Watermark, opening the event with an acoustic solo. Tonight, after his set (with Peter Cocuzza and Mitch Ruthberg), he duo’d with Kuf Knotz on several songs. This was my first time hearing Kuf, and I enjoyed rockin’ out to him as I shot. The night closed with one of my favorites, Des and the Swagmatics. I consider Deseree Spinks of Des and the Swagmatics the next Sharon Jones of Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings (who I’ve photographed at The Count Basie Theatre – love her). Spinks has got a long career ahead of her.

My forte is capturing moments, or as a musician fan of mine, Don Haynie describes what I do as [creating] “music frozen in time, looking for the play button.” I capture my shots with a Nikon D700.. although this video of Des’s encore (yeah encore.. no one wanted that girl to walk off that stage!) was taken with my iPhone.
